Doping in elite running - Eddy Hellebuyck comes... →
By John Brant Image by Shawn Barber From the December 2010 issue of Runner’s World It is incredible that this guy, and more than likely so many others, get away with this? How is it possible in this sport and not others? What are the repercussions? How can we trust that winners are really winners? I was fascinated by this article Eddy sounds like a jerk, but I also feel sorry for him....

Post NYC Marathon Learnings
Don’t blaze through Brooklyn. Listen to your coach when they tell you “Don’t blaze through Brooklyn, a minute upfront is two on the split.” If your friends ditch you at the start make new friends. The people you start running with may very well still be there at mile 17 so be nice. Let your husband, wife, friend run with you for a mile or two…it re-energizes...

The BEST Asparagus Recipe
This has got to be my biggest win in the kitchen for 2010…at least so far! I am inspired by “seasonal” so I bought some asparagus…finally the skinny kind! I thought…what to do with it? I love the taste of asparagus, but sometimes it can be a bit bitter…the in season variety naturally diminishes this, but I wanted a new way to prepare it....

Last Minute Tips In 140 Characters
@armco remember that you’ve logged in the miles and your muscle memory is all built up! @roynaim make sure you eat it a bit early so it won’t sit heavy on you. @roynaim Trust me no matter how many races I will do, the night before I rarely get sleep, it’s Friday night I pack it in and some in the day @roynaim Honestly, I dream and visualize about the race for the whole week. I...

Musings on Distractions
Musings on Distractions
Me: Lets get some exercise! You wanna go for a WALK?
Jack the dog: JUMP! PANT! CIRCLES!
Me: Okay, lets go to the right.
Jack the dog: I smell something to the left.
Me: heel!
Jack the dog: Sniff...what's that? I smell something else...this way?
Me: Heel! Slow down!
Jack the dog: Oh no... I'm almost there...must run...Wait no...something else is over here. What's this? I am on the scent now?
Me: What's so hard about walking in a straight line?
Jack the dog: Wow, that smells, good...ew, it tastes bad?
Me: Oooh! Look at that croissant in the window??!? Shoes? Maybe I'll just try some on.
Me: SIGH. Maybe I'm not so different than a dog afterall?

Shoveling Snow
Does shoveling snow count as cardio? Lessons learned: 1. Don’t half-ass it the first time because you’ll wake up to ice. 2. Don’t half-ass in the morning because you’ll come home and be the only one on the block with ice left. After all that..I think it counts!

Fit Not Funny - The Beginning
I’m not particularly funny and I never thought I could call myself fit. Funny…you can’t fib… Fit…never in my life did I think…. Remember that “I may be fat, but you’ll always be ugly!” line? I used that in middle school…never realizing that it was true. The past two years have taught me…anything is possible when you prioritize. ...
